Georgia Barker was born in Corpus Christi, Texas and has lived in Houston for most of her life. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration. In her graduating class at UT Austin, there were 101 men and only 3 women. Ms. Barker earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Tulsa, College of Law and was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. She was admitted to the Oklahoma State Bar and the following year admitted to the Texas State Bar. She is also admitted to practice in the United States Federal Court, Southern District of Texas.
Today, Ms. Barker studies hard and stays up with the most current laws by taking more than double the number of required credits for continuing legal education. She is a member of the Texas State Bar College and was named a Fellow Member of the Texas State Bar College after passing the 10-year membership milestone. She is also a section member of the Family Law, Oil and Gas, and Real Estate and Probate sections of the Texas State Bar; as well as the Fort Bend Bar, Fort Bend Family Bar, and Harris County Bar.
Ms. Barker practices primarily in the areas of family law, wills, and probate. She is often appointed by judges to represent unknown heirs in probate cases and as an attorney ad litem in guardianships. She has acquired a guardianship certificate from the state bar of Texas. In family cases, she enjoys helping her clients achieve a much-improved life. Whether her client is facing divorce or the loss of a loved one, Ms. Barker sincerely believes setbacks make her clients stronger and better able to reach a happier state of mind in the future. She is a trained negotiator, mediator, and litigator and has been lead counsel in numerous trials. Ms. Barker is a zealous advocate for her client's rights, especially their right to have a great relationship, to have custody and possession of their children, and to protect their assets during a divorce.
Ms. Barker is active in her community and in the past has volunteered to feed the homeless at the Bridge in Dallas and the Beacon in Houston, worked with Habitat for Humanity, Homes for Orphans, and has been a member of the Women's Initiative for the United Way. She has donated time and money to Fort Bend Lawyer's Care, which assists low-income people with family law matters when they are unable to hire a private attorney. She is a member of the Cinco Ranch Ladies Club and is an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Katy, Texas, where she has helped with meals for the poor.
Ms. Barker likes to spend her spare time with her family, her sons, and her friends. She also enjoys biking, dancing, and walking her dogs with her husband, a CPA. She enjoys traveling while earning continuing legal education and has had some wonderful trips to visit foreign courts, jails, FBl's and parliaments. Within the last few years, she has traveled to London, England; West Berlin, Germany; Madrid, Spain; Finland; and Russia with many other jovial lawyers and Judges.
